Part 5 – Tube Mounts & Mirrors

In this video I continue the Laser Build by installing the Laser Tube Mounts, and the Mirror mounts. I also install the stepper motors to the mounts on the X&Y Axis.
The mechanical parts I am using for this build are from Cloudray Laser .

Part 3 – Axis Rail Guide Assembly

I apologise I am still trying to get this information together for you. I will update more here soon.

I got the Inner Rails due to budget for this build, and they should be good for the main work I do which is engraving, but also cutting out signs.  I’m not running my woodworking machines so dust should not be a problem for me.  I also aim to make the machine enclosure to prevent dust entering the rail guides, and will be maintaining regularly like I do with my current machine.

The 3 styles of Rail Guides are

  • Inner Sliding Rails – where the bearings run along the inside of a channel
  • Outer Sliding Rails – bearings run outside the rail’s edge. and
  • Linear Guide Rails – a Steel guide along the axis keeps axis movement precise.

CNC Laser Machine Frame

This Frame is still a work in progress so I will continue to add to this list until the project is completed.


In my video

I show the design software ( I used to create a plan and cutting list for the chosen material for the frame of my machine 3030 Profile Aluminium Extrusion T-Slot. 

I sourced mine here in Australia from ( I ordered Bolts, T-Slot Nuts and Brackets from MK Aluminium (you can order in Australia via eBay from MK Aluminium – )

I didn’t purchase enough nuts and bolts, so I also purchased extra bolts and T-Slot nuts online, below.

I purchased additional M5 Bolts and Castors from The Fastener Factory

I needed more corner angle brackets and found them a bit cheaper to order online.

  • I ordered these Aluminium Profile Corner Bracket, 3030 Series L Shape Right Angle Connector, for Standard 8mm Slot Aluminium Extrusion Profile – 
  • I used mostly 3030 profile there are a lot of different connections available to suit your needs –

DIY Laser Build – Part 1 – Planning & Design

G’day Welcome, This is going to be a page I update regularly during the DIY Build of my CNC Laser Machine.  Check back regularly as I update and provide as much info as I can about the parts and prices for the build.

Something to note is that the machine I am building has a cutting area of 1300x900mm and this is larger than most people may want or need.  So you will need to consider this when price estimating for your own build.
